Google Adds Bike Routes and Directions to Maps

SF Bike Map
It's a beautiful San Francisco Day.  You have a meeting in the Richmond at a location you've never visited.  You'd love to ride your bike, but don't want to find yourself climbing a mountain.  How can you find the safest and flatest route to your destination?  Google Maps is here for you. The Google Mappers have been hard at work responding to public demand for bike maps. More than 50,000 people signed the petitions like the one at http://www.petitiononline.com/bikether/petition.html  for bike maps to:

  • Make bicycling safer for millions of bicyclists around the world.
  • Empower world citizens to better adapt their lifestyles to face the
    challenges of global climate change.
  • Help Google realize its core mission of 'organizing the world's
information and making it universally accessible and useful.

The new maps are currently available for 150 U.S. cities.  Mobile apps will no doubt be coming soon.
